Luxury Retirement Houses in Surrey

The county town of Guildford is a combination of old and new with a wealth of historic buildings, some dating back to Medieval times, blending with an attractive modern shopping and cultural centre. The variety and quality of shopping in Guildford is extensive and offers everything from major department stores to exclusive speciality shops. The writer and politician William Cobbett was born near Guildford and thought it "the prettiest, and taken altogether, the most agreeable and most happy-looking town that I ever saw in my life".

The area is popular with early retirees due to the extensine sporting and cultural activities nearby. The Spectrum Centre has an impressive pool complex, ice-rink, aerobic and dance studios, multisport halls, gym, health suite and athletics track. There is an open air market on Fridays and Saturdays. The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre has an excellent reputation and there are many restaurants.

Bramley lies in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty about three miles south of Guildford and Cognatum's development here consists of 20 luxury retirement apartments and cottages with secure underground parking and a swimming pavilion. Externally, the development has been designed to complement older properties in the Bramley Village Conservation area. Internally, however, the 16 apartments and four cottages provide generous, flexible living space for the retired. Bramley itself is a most attractive village with a good number of shops, library and post office. There are churches of most denominations.
